What's happening to VR headsets?

I have a Pimax Crystal, was a fantastic upgrade from my 8kx. Super high resolution, 120hz refresh rate and options for wider FOV lenses. Even better was the up coming Pimax 12K , which I've been planning to buy since I upgraded my GPU.

Since then Pimax seems to have scrapped the 12k... And the Crystal Super seems a downgrade to me with it's 90hz refresh rate.

How come more powerful VR headsets are becoming less of a thing and smaller more compact less powerful ones are?
