Microphone detected but mic test plays nothing back

I'm trying to use a microphone, but even though the blue volume bar works (it moves and I hear a sound when I blow into it)
The image shows a volume control slider set close to the maximum at 100.

However, whenever I try to test the mic, the playback is silent.
(I sent a screenshot because I'm worried my explanation is not helpful)
I am using windows 11.
