cannot connect new gaming monitor

My son's xbox series x works fine with his old screen. We have bought him a Samsung G5 Odessey Gaming screen, which was recommended as being suitable for use with xbox series x. I've plugged in the screen and linked it to the xbox using the HDMI cable but I am getting no image and a message saying "check cables on source device"
I've used several different HDMI cables but it makes no difference. Does anyone have any suggestions?
