34" - I screwed up

Hi guys,
I purchased a 34" samsung monitor and thought it would create an issue with my dated graphics card, so now I must buy a new laptop. For the time being, I would like to connect a second monitor with a DP -> HDMI splitter. Does that work?

I have the following:

I only have a DP on my PC....and the resolution is too low for the 34"....
